ECOFARMS - Organic Farms

BE HAPPIER, HEALTHIER & BETTER OFF BY LIVING MORE SUSTAINABLY!

SoilassociconsmallerNestling between the Thames, the Downs & The Cotswolds, the beautiful countryside around Faringdon has another interesting claim to fame. There are more organic farms within two miles of Faringdon than around any other similar sized town in the country! The Urban-Rural Partnership is REAL!

  • Rodney & Sue Martin from Carswell Farm - ECOBEES & ECOBIRDS tour led by Beekeeper & RSPB experts – Tues 19th
     6-9pm
  • Sonia Richardson at Coleshill Organics – ECOVEG horticulture tours and glass of wine or juice – Weds 20th 5.30pm onwards
  • Adam & Liz Twine at Westmill Farm – ECOWIND, to tie in with open day on Wind Farm – Sat, 23rd
  • Lydia Otter at Pennyhooks Farm – will be opening for Open Farm Sunday, 13th June – farm walks, pond-dipping, see the animals, etc

Beef suckler herd and grain. BTO. British Trust Ornathology Recorded - In 2006 this farm had the highest number of  different birds ( 71 species) on any farm in the UK.  land by the River Thames.

 A dairy farm producing milk for the brand Country Life Organic. Tree planting this year included some disease resistant Elms. Great variety of species including Red Kite and Skylark. Recently converted self-catering cottages are highly insulated and have condensing boilers, heat recovery ventilation, underfloor-heating, condensing boilers and a wood burning stove. 190 pedigree British friesians, milk sold to OMSCO the organic co op who sell to Yeo Valley. All calves are reared on the farm for milking or fattened for beef. Abederdeen angus or hereford cross cattle are butchered locally, vacuum packed and labelled ready for the freezer.Wheat is grown for bread making and sold to FWP Matthews at Shipton u Wychwood. www.dibbledirect.co.uk also farm Snowswick farm @ buscot & @ Inglesham. Various farm buildings also have Solar tubes (water heating) Solar panels (water heating) Underfloor heating Woodburning stove(s) Condensing boiler Insulated loft Low energy lighting throughout. Solar tubes for heating water in dairy, plate coolers to cool milk panels for water in house plan to use heat from under cattle bedding to heat office.

Clare’s Organics Westmill

Paul and Clare Sykes are a Soil association registered organic monthly meat box scheme based at westmill farm, watchfield. We raise our own organic chicken and use other local (no more than 15 miles away) organic beef pork and lamb in our boxes.  The chickens range from a very early age (around 10 days old, weather depending) on our clover leys. They have plenty of cover to scratch about in and dust baths that are very popular! Onsite: Photovoltaic panel(s) & Wind turbine.

Not an organic farm, but many other ecocredentials. Farmer Gow's; the 'favourite place on earth' for lots of young visitors. 'Farmers Market ~ Sun 15 June 10am - 1pm Farmer Gow's is open daily throughout Ecoweek and throughout the year ~ 10am - 5pm Meet the Animals ~ at 11am and at 2pm Bottle feeding, chick handling, egg collecting, goat & ferret walking. Trailer Rides ~ Bale Climbs ~ Pedal Tractors ~ indoor and outdoor play areas Farm Shop with Cafe area and Picnic Areas.

Coleshill organics was established over 10 years ago to provide local food for local people. nearly 400 seasonal vegetable boxes are delivered weekly in the local area. Visitors to the shop (open wed pm - sat pm) in the walled garden are welcome to explore the garden and see the veg growing. Around the farm we also have Photovoltaic panel(s) , Wind turbine &  Woodburning stove(s) .
Garden tour starting 18.00 Wednesday 16th June at the walled garden, coleshill. Learn or discover more about organic horticulture. Glass of wine or juice to round the evening off.
