Peter Kindersley trained as a painter, calligrapher and print maker at Camberwell, where he met his wife Juliet, who was training to be a painter. He went on to start Dorling Kindersley publishing house in 1974, which he owned and ran until 2000 when it was sold to Pearson plc, owners of Penguin.
Peter and Juliet purchased Sheepdrove Farmhouse in 1970. Over the ensuing years they purchased 2250 acres of land which they have converted into one the UK's leading organic farms. Opened in 1997, Sheepdrove Organic Farm is an award-winning rural enterprise which is at the forefront of organic farming. HRH The Prince of Wales commented, 'You have shown that the (organic farming) system can work anywhere (I am) enormously impressed.' The farm also incorporates a sustainable eco-friendly conference centre, and a shop, which stocks produce from the farm. In addition, Peter and Juliet own two farm shops in Maida Vale and Bristol.
