As the last event of Faringdon ECOWEEK, the longest day of the year, the 21st June at 2pm precisely, 3000 visitors to the Windfarm Open Day will come together to EMBRACE THE WIND - attempting to set a new world record for wind-turbine hugging. That we will succeed there is no doubt - since the record will only come into existence for the first time through our efforts!
But - succeeding is not enough. We want this to be a truly spectacular Event. First - a circle of huggers will place one hand on the base of one of the turbine masts. Next, others will then hold hands radiating outwards - so that eventually everyone will be indirectly in contact with the single turbine. What will THEN happen - with all that generated wind energy radiating outwards meeting the positive hugger energy directed towards the centre - no one knows... But - remember the film Independence Day?
And that’s not all! The hand-holding huggers will be formed into a symbolic shape that contains the turbine at the centre - following the pattern of the background image you see here. Aerial photography will ensure that the attempt is immortalised in the annals of turbine-hugging history, and to give you the pictures to show your grandchildren. “I wos there... “ you’ll be able to say. “I wos one of those huggers when that turbine took off...”
